MARADU MUNICIPALITY

 Maradu Municipality is situated within the Kanayannur Taluk of Ernakulam district. Characterized by a coastal landscape, the municipality has a total area of ​​12.35 square kilometers.Maradu Municipality shares its borders with Kochi Corporation to the north; Thrippunithura Municipality and Udayamperoor Grama Panchayat to the east; Kumbalam Grama Panchayat to the south; and Kumbalam Grama Panchayat and Kochi Corporation to the west.Maradu, which was formed as a Grama Panchayat on May 18, 1953, was upgraded to a municipality in September 2010. During its time as a Grama Panchayat, Maradu won the "Nirmal Gramam" award and the "Nattushakti Award" for the best Panchayat President.

                                       Development           

       In terms of development, Maradu is considered a satellite town of Kochi. The presence of two major national highways propelled this rural area onto the path of development very rapidly.Substantial investments have flowed into Maradu, a location situated just a stone's throw from the city yet removed from the hustle and bustle of Kochi. Even while it was still a grama panchayat, Maradu had evolved into a local self-government body boasting the highest number of revenue sources.Maradu, a region naturally endowed with picturesque backwaters and mangrove forests, is rapidly advancing in terms of development, including in the eco-tourism sector. A vast automotive retail hub has emerged in the area, featuring showrooms for major manufacturers such as Audi, Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Honda, Chevrolet, Mitsubishi, Mahindra, Fiat, and Hyundai.There are numerous star hotels here, both large and small, with a few more hotel projects currently underway. Construction of the proposed Hi-Tech City by Sobha Developers is progressing. The Abad Nucleus Mall represents the latest chapter in Marad's rapid development.

                                      Festivals

The most significant among the festivals of Maradu is the Thalapoli Mahotsavam, held annually at the Maradu Sree Kottaram Bhagavathi Temple. It takes place during the months of February and March.The Thalappoli festival, popularly known as the Maradu Fireworks Festival, is one of the most renowned fireworks displays in Kerala. Residents living on either side of the Maradu Kottaram Bhagavathi Temple organize the festivities by dividing themselves into two committees: the *Vadakke Cheruvaram* (Northern Group) and the *Thekke Cheruvaram* (Southern Group). Each group independently organizes its own festival rituals and fireworks displays. People travel from far and wide during festival days to witness this fireworks display, which is renowned for the majestic resonance of its explosions.              

          Other major celebrations include the feast at Maradu St. Magdalene's Church and the festivals at Thiru Ayani Shiva Temple, Pandavath Shiva Temple, and Nettur Mahadeva Temple.
